Winter is almost behind us so hopefully it’s time to farewell all the comforting—but skin destroying things—that the cold weather brings; steaming hot showers, frosty westerly winds and the heat setting on your air-conditioner.
But if you’re anything like me, once you start to peel off all those layers that were keeping you warm, you’ll find you skin has suffered, and some of the side effects include dryness, flaking, chapping, and itchiness. And that’s on top of the general neglect that comes with burying our skin under layers of clothes (does anyone need a new razor?).
Thankfully, the team at Wintergarden’s Mecca Maxima shared with me their top five ‘must have’ products to get your skin looking radiant, just in time for Spring.
Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream, $88
Inspired by the face creams your grandmother would have used, this creamy, whipped moisturiser both delivers instant and sustained hydration to dull, parched complexions without ever feeling heavy or greasy. Plus it’s been infused with a blend of six antioxidant-rich African oils to heal and renew; plantain extract to promote firmness, density and elasticity whilst evening skin tone; fermented green tea to combat ageing and inflammation and moisture-boosting sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer to hydrate, smooth fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen formation.
Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Dew It All Eye Gel, $70
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, but what if the bags are bigger than a suitcase and you’ve got more lines than a zebra crossing? It’s time to meet Dr Dennis Gross and his magical Hyaluronic Marine Dew It All Eye Gel. This hydrating and plumping eye corrector, packed full of active ingredients providing up to 72 hours of smooth and nourished eyes. Get ready to say goodbye to dark circles, fine lines and puffy under eyes.
Sunday Riley Juno Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil, $132
A favourite backstage at Stella McCartney, this dry face oil hydrates skin, creates a velvet smooth canvas and helps protect against ageing for an lust-worthy glow. It’s been formulated with a superfood-derived blend of cold-pressed, fast absorbing oils extremely high in antioxidants, vitamin C, essential amino acids, omegas 3, 6, & 9, to protect against anti-ageing and UV exposure. In short, your skin will be left plump, pores refined, redness minimised and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles reduced. And it’s free from essential oils, so it’s suitable for those like me who have sensitivity to such oils.
Drunk Elephant Lippe, $26
My lips take an absolute beating with the wind and the cold, but with a slick or two of this decadently buttery, anti-ageing lip treatment, I’m back on my way to having some of the softest, most-kissable lips yet! Infused with a nourishing blend of avocado, mongongo, cranberry and marula oils to restore hydration; peptides and sea fern algae to restore collagen levels and redefine the lip contour and green tea leaf and vitamin C to repair sun damage, the Drunk Elephant Lippe will leave your pout plump, soft and supple.
Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub, $16.95
Frank is the body scrub to rule them all. Formulated with roasted and ground robusta coffee beans to smooth, cold-pressed sweet almond oil to hydrate and nourish, antioxidant-rich vitamin E and skin-refining sea salt, scrub away your dry, flaky skin and say hello to soft, smooth and supple limbs! I can’t go past the classic Original Coffee scrub, but it almost comes in a coconut coffee scrub if you fancy being whisked away to a tropical island and, for a limited time, a Birthday Cake body scrub which has the delicious scent of a freshly baked birthday cake!
