The New Stripe

Stripes have always been in fashion, however this summer they have taken on a bright bold new look.

The Spring Summer 2016 Catwalks are full of stripes in every style you can imagine.   They ran horizontally, vertically, asymmetrically and in all different directions extending far beyond the navy and white equal width we have seen in the past.

Personally I love stripes because they are extremely versatile and they always lift an outfit.   Stripes look good on everyone and they never go out of style.

Historically we have seen a striped piece mixed with a block colour piece or with denim.  This spring /summer the vibe is don’t hold back.  More is more so don’t be afraid to over do it.  Mix and match vertical stripes with horizontal stripes and look for multi-coloured and multi-directional stripes.  Try a striped suit or a blouse and skirt.

Combine a striped piece with another printed piece such as a spot or a floral.  Consider stripes as the neutral and if the colours for both pieces you are combining look good together you will have a fabulous new season outfit.

If you are feeling unsure and just want to dip your toe into this trend combine a striped piece with one of your favourite bold colours.  Layer a striped T-shirt under a block colour dress, add a striped accessory or opt for a striped sleeve or trim.

Consider it a fresh start to the new season and invest in the new stripe. It’s fun!
