Getting Race Wear Ready

If you love a flutter at the track, now is the time to get organised and get your race day outfits ready.

This season sees florals, laces, stripes, bright block colours, ruffles, flounces, statement sleeves and lots of off the shoulder.  We will see longer hem lines with the midi length and full length being this years trend.

Derby Day kick starts the Melbourne Cup carnival on the the 29th of October and it is traditional for the ladies to wear a black and white outfit.  Derby Day is the perfect example of classic elegance. When choosing an outfit for Derby Day consider all over white, all over black or monochrome.  Make sure your outfit has texture, a stylish silhouette or some sort of gorgeous detailing if you want to make a statement.

Stripes are huge this season so I have opted for this black and white striped dress by Sheike.  Off the shoulder or exposing one shoulder is a huge trend this season so I have opted for a strapless gown.  This gorgeous wide brimmed hat adds race day elegance and I have kept my shoes and clutch bag black so they don’t draw attention away from this stunning striped dress.

Melbourne Cup Day sees most women making some kind of effort to dress up be it an office party, lunch with friends or a day at the track.  For many the fashion on the field is just as exciting as the race.  It’s the time you see a bit of everything with no rules although it is a time to look elegant, on trend and stylish.

Green is a big colour this season so I have opted for this one shoulder dress by Aurium.  The fitted silhouette of this dress speaks elegance and class. I have injected interest with this bold Louis Vuitton bag from the Designer Archives and have kept my shoes and hair clip fairly neutral with gold.

When it comes to shoes choose a heel that you are comfortable in and if you will be standing on the grass, wear a block heel.  Fascinators and hats are a traditional choice, however detailed clips and head bands can also look amazing.

Dress in something you feel amazing in and let your outfit make the statement.  Most importantly be comfortable so you can really enjoy the day.
