Festive Season fashion “wrapped up” whatever the occasion

You’re not alone if you are wondering where the last 12 months have gone!  As December rolls around it’s time to decide whether to have one last crack at that New Year’s resolution or simply give up and embrace the festive season in all its glory! I’ve opted for the latter!

Christmas decorations are up, summer is here and it’s Christmas party season – “the most magical and enjoyable time of the year”!  Whether you are attending a work Christmas party, cocktail event, casual lawn bowls, family barbecue, picnic in the park for carols by candlelight, or all of the above, it’s time to update your summer wardrobe! Ditch the suits and formal attire and opt for fun and floaty outfits to compliment the occasion.

We have all fallen victim to investing in that one cocktail dress that we unashamedly wear over and over during the course of the silly season!  And, if you are forward thinking, no doubt in the past you would have opted for a loose fitting, forgiving style to accommodate the unavoidable canapé kilograms that catch up on us over the festive period.  Let’s be honest, wearing the same dress as your “summer uniform” is difficult to do with all the sneaky social media snaps. It’s time to flaunt new season fashion in that tanned and toned body you’ve been working so hard to attain during the cooler months! (Hot tip: Don’t worry if you haven’t, a spray tan can make you look about 10 kilos lighter)

It is not only important to look fabulous holding a champagne glass but also to be dressed appropriately for the festivities. After all, you won’t be able to fully enjoy yourself if you are feeling underdressed, overdressed or uncomfortable.

Some useful wardrobe considerations for the festive period:

Time on the green at lawn bowls or playing croquet
Opt for floaty jumpsuits/playsuits or resort style long pants with leg slits.  The lightweight fabric is perfect for celebrations in the sweltering sun and pants are a great option especially for bending down and being active.  Add an oversized hat and mirrored sunglasses to make a style statement as well as staying sun smart.

Cocktail party
Stand out in a fitted silhouette dress and reserve the floaty dresses for the beach. White continues to be the colour of the season, whether you choose lace, linen or laser cut embellishments you will be right on trend. White with yellow/mustard is the colour combination for Summer 16/17.  Avoid dragging out the LBD – remember your outfit is a reflection of your mood and personality so have fun with prints and colour.

Office Party
No matter whether you are single or in a relationship, it’s your opportunity to show your office crush that you are not just fabulous from 9 to 5.  Remember your outfit is an extension of your personal brand so keep it classy and avoid low cut tops and short hemlines.  Don’t forget to switch out your corporate pumps for nude heels, wedges or sandals.

Carols by candlelight
I’m afraid it has to be said … tacky printed Christmas T-shirts and sweaters are a definite fashion faux pas unless you are attending a dress-up party where kitsch is the name of the game.  Cute lace shorts or off-the-shoulder dresses are my pick, but avoid white if you plan to sit directly on the grass.

Barbecue by the pool
Snags, sun tanning and swimming!  So many great outfit options for these types of events!  Start with a great bikini or one piece, then consider your complimentary outerwear, so you can easily transition from pool to poolside (specifically consider the necklines, your outerwear should not look like an afterthought).  The return of the one-piece swimsuit is here with so many cute styles available that you don’t even need a cover-up, just add a cute skirt or lace short and you are ready to go!  Long kaftans are also practical, elegant and comfortable – opt for a printed or embellished style and channel luxury Malibu vibes. For shoes, nude gladiator wedges or metallic finish slides are on trend. Finally, complete your outfit with body jewellery, tasteful metallic tattoos, reflective sunglasses and a great hat!

Happy shopping! Don’t feel guilty about splurging on a wardrobe update – consider it a Christmas present to yourself! You’ve conquered another year and deserve to feel fabulous whilst you celebrate!
