Fast and fresh Vietnamese at Ms Chi Qi

There’s something just so satisfyingly FRESH about Vietnamese fare. Whether it’s the crunch of lettuce in a rice paper roll, the soft and fluffy bread piled with carrot and coriander in a banh mi or the crisp bean sprouts on a steaming bowl of pho, it makes us feel healthier just thinking about it.

So when we discovered Ms Chi Qi hidden away in a corner of the Wintergarden we didn’t even know existed, we were just about ready to throw out our Tupperware containers in favour of their flavoursome feeds for weekday lunches.

Not the typical fast food spot you’d find in a food court, Ms Chi Qi is one of a kind. ‘Chi’ and ‘qi’ meaning positive energy, owner Richard (who once ran Wang Dynasty, a South Bank institution) is all about providing healthy grab-and-go eats, with everything on their menu carefully planned and prepared.

From the rice paper rolls with more salad than noodle to the bowls of pho filled with broth that has had all that heavy fat and oil skimmed off, this menu gets a big tick of health approval. Bonus, most of it is gluten free, and they have plenty of options for the vegos out there!

If you’re not quite so worried about your waistline, you can get your hands on flavoursome dishes like satay chicken, seafood laksa and banh mi packed with pork meatballs. But for those who’ve perhaps taken too much advantage of Wintergarden’s many sweet offerings, fill up on lemongrass beef vermicelli noodle salad or a mixed vegetable stir-fry.

Our tip though? 2 or 3 rice paper rolls in flavours like Mongolian beef, roast duck and chives and BBQ pork and avocado will only set you back a measly $3.50 each – and trust us when we say you don’t need more than 2 or 3!

Ready to ditch the leftovers and find the CBD’s freshest lunches? You’ll discover Ms Chi Qi hidden around a corner of Wintergarden’s food court, right at the back, open 7 days a week for lunch.
